Know Your Rights!

ruins.gifAs a textile worker, we recognize that you have significantly fewer legal rights than do your capitalist bosses. However, there are several important things to bear in mind.If you would like to know more about your rights, these are the current factory laws in the New York City. Also, don’t be afraid to share any stories that you have of ill treatment at the hands of your factory overseers. We have certainly heard it said that “if a woman has sexual contact with a man, even a suggestive conversation it is because she has not behaved like a lady. If the workers of the union do not behave respectably, they will not be treated with respect”. However, we do not believe this to be the case. As a women, you have the right to protect your body, and the right to be free from fear.Click here for the stories of a few women who were brave enough to talk about their experiences of sexual exploitation at their workplaces. However, please also remember that your actions reflect upon yourself and the union. As a woman and a union member, you are expected to practice non-violence. Unfortunately, one spectator at a recent strike told a reporter that he had seen some girls “armed with short clubs, and their method of attack is to rush upon thugs much as a football line gets into ā€˜Vā€™ shape in a rush play.” This is unacceptable!
